Covergence Makes Unified Communications Interoperability Possible and Affordable with the Debut of Covergence Collaboration Gateway

Subscription pricing enables enterprise customers to protect and extend UC investments while improving communication across organizations

MAYNARD, Mass., August 11, 2008 – Covergence®, the leading provider of next-generation session border control and session management solutions to the Fortune 1000, today unveiled the Covergence Collaboration Gateway (CCG) to improve communication between enterprise organizations and enable them to protect and extend investments in unified communications (UC) platforms.

To improve communications, increase collaboration, and improve worker productivity, forward-looking organizations are already deploying UC solutions such as Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS) and IBM Lotus Sametime. However, many businesses cannot reap the benefits of these platforms across the entire enterprise because their UC solutions have not been deployed in a universal fashion. In many cases, UC products have been purchased at the department level with no thought towards a corporate standard, or enterprises have been left with fractured implementations as a result of corporate mergers or acquisitions.

CCG supports interoperability between Microsoft OCS/LCS and IBM Sametime version 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, and 8.0 and also features new pricing, with subscriptions as low as $1 per user, per month.

“Converting to an enterprise-wide, single-vendor UC solution can be an expensive, lengthy and sometimes impractical proposition,” said Jim Moran, president and CEO of Covergence. “We’ve listened to the pain points of the early adopters who are looking to capitalize on the promise of unified communications, and we can now offer some relief. By offering interoperability on a subscription pricing model, our customers are in control of their migration path and timeline.”

CCG delivers controlled, secure connectivity between disparate UC platforms, allowing users from different organizations – even different companies – to work together as if they were served by the same UC platform, enjoying shared presence information, instant messaging and other features. For organizations committed to an eventual corporate UC standard, CCG’s subscription pricing enables a faster return on their UC investments by allowing them to implement the solution immediately and maintain their subscription for as long as it is needed.

“For years we’ve been hearing about the promise of unified communications, but most enterprises have been slow to adopt. The lack of interoperability between vendors has really been a deterrent to making ubiquitous UC a reality,” said Zeus Kerravala, senior vice president, Enterprise Research,at Yankee Group. “A product such as the Covergence Collaboration Gateway is a step in the right direction that could put a much-needed spark into UC adoption.”
